Oasis Academy Oldham staged its first-ever “Belong” Music Festival . . . a vibrant celebration of music, culture, creativity, and community that brought together students and staff for an unforgettable day of entertainment.
The festival was named “Belong” to reflect the academy’s commitment to ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and connected and believe that young people flourish when they feel they belong—not only within their school, but as part of a wider family and community.
The event, which was held yesterday (Thurs) showcased the incredible talents of students through a range of musical performances while also celebrating the rich diversity of the academy community.
Students and staff enjoyed live DJs, a spectacular cultural dance showcase, inflatable attractions, and a dedicated chill-out zone complete with festival face painting, creating an exciting festival atmosphere for all ages.
Within the academy grounds were festival food vans, with access forming part of the academy’s VIP reward experience for students who have consistently gone above and beyond throughout the year.
The initiative recognises students who have demonstrated outstanding effort, commitment, leadership, attendance, and positive contributions to academy life.
Christopher Mason, Assistant Head Teacher with responsibility for Personal Development said: “The name Belong perfectly captures what we want every student to experience at Oasis Academy Oldham.
“We are more than just a school; we are a family and a community. This festival is about bringing people together, celebrating our diversity, and ensuring every young person knows they are welcomed, valued, and that they truly belong.
“We are also proud to recognise those students who go above and beyond every day. Our VIP rewards, including access to festival food vans, are a way of celebrating their achievements and thanking them for the positive impact they have on our academy community.”
A student leader who has been involved in organising the event added: “We have been part of the planning of the festival from the beginning, and it has been really exciting to help shape something new for our school."
The festival provided opportunities for students to express themselves, build confidence, and create lasting memories while strengthening the bonds between school, families, and the wider community.
Importantly, it was developed with student voice at its heart, with student leaders playing a key role in helping to plan and promote the event.
By combining music, culture, food, and fun activities, the Belong Music Festival aims to become a flagship annual event for Oasis Academy Oldham, reinforcing the academy’s vision of creating a community where everyone has a place, a voice, and a genuine sense of belonging.
