A heartless thug has been jailed for seven years after launching a vicious attack on a man during a night out in Oldham town centre.
Sebastian Jones (37), of Dickens Street, Oldham, was captured on CCTV leaving a night club, before violently punching the 41-year-old victim to the ground where he continued to assault him at around 4am on Monday, July 15.
Members of the public rushed to call the police and upon arrival, the victim was on the floor with serious injuries to his head.
Emergency services administered first aid, but the injured man left the scene and returned home.
Later that day, he was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
A warrant was executed at an address on Dickens Street, but Jones was actively evading police.
A manhunt was launched to locate Jones, and seven days later, he was arrested in Bury and was swiftly charged and remanded with Section18 assault.
Following a three-day trial at Manchester Crown Court which concluded in January 2025, Jones was found guilty and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment this week.
Detective Superintendent Walker from the Oldham district said: “The level of violence displayed by Jones was completely unacceptable and cowardly.
“The victim was defenceless on the ground, and Jones carried out a sustained attack, causing significant injuries which have left a lasting impact on the victim and his family. Greater Manchester Police will not tolerate any form of violence.’
“After the savage assault, he actively evaded police and showed no remorse for his actions. He is now rightly facing the consequences of his behaviour.”
