Lighting up Oldham

Around 10,000 people turned out to enjoy Oldham's Christmas Lights Switch On last Sunday in Tommyfield Market.

There was a variety of fantastic local talent, along with special appearances from CBeebies’ big friendly dog ‘Hey Dugee’ and Santa Claus – not forgetting a fireworks finale.

It kicked off with local performer Stuart Beech – aka ‘The Singing Pilot’ – commencing the switch-on countdown with a spectacular stage show.

More local talent followed Stuart, with a performance from Royton-based group ‘Fierce Dance’ along with a special number from Oldham College who performed their community Christmas single for Stop the Traffik called 'Christmas with you'.

There was plenty of raving, singing and dancing when Cbeebies ‘Hey Duggee’ entertained the huge crowds with the ‘Stick Song’ and helped Santa to turn on the festive lights, before the fireworks display rounded the night off with a bang.

  • Latics 1 – 2 Salford City: Latics come up short against ugly Salford side

This was the first game for a few months in which Latics have played without the prospect of achieving a play-off place. Throughout February and March, Latics went on an astonishing run that put them in charge of their own destiny – if they had won every game from that point, they would have been in the play-offs no matter what happened elsewhere. The team they would have had to displace from the play-off spots (there was only one) was Salford City.
