A unassuming community champion is giving away free handmade lanyards to help folk safeguard their mobile phones.
Julie Kenyon from Mossley makes the lanyards with 10 mm ribbed ribbon and distributes them complimentary to people to keep their phones safe while using them out and about and shopping.
She said: "I’m on my third roll of tape making lanyards which are used inside the phone case, only a couple of inches to each one, and I’ve lost count of how many I’ve made.
“Phone users need to be using a phone protection case to install the lanyards. Luckily, many people do use one.
“The lanyard needs to be placed inside the case, at the bottom, where you are able to plug the power charger in, then thread the ribbon through where you plug the charger in.”
Julie, City &Guilds dressmaking qualified, added: ”Four years ago I had to leave my full time job to care for my mother who had been diagnosed with vascular dementia. However, she’s now had to go into a care home, giving me more time to do other things.”
Currently, she teaches sewing skills and needle felting and can be reached via her number: or Facebook page.
