BBC Philharmonic Orchestra performs live at Oasis Academy Leesbrook

Children treated to music from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Oasis Academy Leesbrook welcomed the world-renowned BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for a day of spectacular live performances that left students and staff inspired.

Across three sessions in the school’s main hall, over 500 students from Years 7 and 8 were treated to an unforgettable experience, with the orchestra performing a range of classical and contemporary pieces.

The afternoon performance (pictured below) also welcomed special guests from neighbouring schools, including Oasis Academy Clarksfield, The Oldham Academy North, and North Chadderton School.

The visit formed part of the orchestra’s community outreach work, giving young people the chance to experience the thrill of live orchestral music and to learn more about the instruments and musicians behind it.

“The arts are central to our core belief at Oasis Leesbrook - it was a joy to host the BBC Philharmonic, a first for Oldham schools.

"We are committed to providing a broad educational experience for our students, building their cultural capital. An inspirational experience for all, a truly wonderful day,” said Mrs Andrea Mitchell, Headteacher.

“We are incredibly grateful to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for bringing this unforgettable experience to our students.

“Events like this are so important in inspiring the next generation of musicians and showing them what’s possible through dedication and a love for what you do.

“At Leesbrook we firmly believe all children are musical and have the right to learn music. With over 130 young people currently learning a musical instrument or taking singing lessons here at Leesbrook, we’re passionate about the power of music and hope this event inspires even more of our students to learn a musical instrument, “ added Mr Steven Cavanagh, Curriculum Leader of Music and National Lead Practitioner for Music.

The event was part of Leesbrook’s ongoing commitment to building cultural capital and providing students with meaningful opportunities to experience the arts. It also reflects the school’s belief that music and creativity are vital to personal growth, confidence, and community connection.
