Work set to begin at MyActive Glossop

Specialist remedial work to enable MyActive Glossop to fully re-open is set to begin in early August.

Users will benefit from a refreshed gym complete with brand new cardiovascular equipment when the centre re-opens this autumn.

From Monday 4 August, contractors will begin work in the areas of the leisure centre that have remained closed following structural surveys. The full programme is expected to take around eight weeks to complete.

The works will start in the gym, which will re-open as soon as the work in that area is finished, before contractors move into the other affected areas including the group exercise studio and squash courts which will re-open slightly later.

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure (pictured below), said: “Thank you to everyone - our members, visitors and our MyActive staff - for your patience and understanding whilst we’ve worked behind the scenes to get this right.

“The structural issues identified last year were highly unusual, and it’s taken time to bring in the right experts to design and deliver a long-term fix. But now we’ve got the green light. And I’m pleased to confirm that work will begin very soon.

“We’ve planned the programme to re-open the gym as quickly as possible- with a new look and brand-new cardio kit – followed by the other areas shortly after. We know this disruption has been frustrating, but we’re making this investment to come back better than before - and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back.”

Members of MyActive Glossop will be contacted directly about their options whilst the works take place.
