Shops certainly believed in supplying as many of their customers' needs as possible in the 'old days'.
Here’s one that doubled as a complete gents’ outfitters and a tobacconist!
Everything a stylish man about town needed when this advertisement appeared in the Glossop Chronicle in 1904.
Thomas Hadfield and Son, who operated out of Bon Marche on High Street West, claimed to be the oldest and largest shop of its kind in Glossop, having been established in 1864.
As you can see from the advert, the shop windows were packed with a variety of menswear, while the huge sign above points out that Hadfield’s were also ‘complete athletic outfitters’.
As most men in the early 1920s wore anything from flat caps to bowlers, the enterprising Hadfield’s also sold hats.
