Leader of council issues statement about Glossop tip

Councillor Alan Graves, Leader of Derbyshire County Council.

Councillor Alan Graves, Leader of Derbyshire County Council, has issued a statement to the Glossop Chronicle about the potential closure of Glossop Household Waste Recycling Centre.

He said:

"No decision has been made to close the Glossop tip. While its closure has been suggested in light of the council’s financial position, this is only a proposal at this stage.

"Before any decision is taken, we will be undertaking a formal consultation process. At the next Cabinet meeting, we will be seeking approval to proceed with that consultation.

"I am aware that some parties are presenting this as a confirmed decision, which is not the case.

"Cllr Jason Isherwood has been actively representing local concerns and continues to play an important role in our ongoing discussions.

"I would encourage residents to take part in the official consultation once it opens, and to support others in the community to do the same so that all views can be properly considered.”

The Cabinet meeting will take place in April, with the public consultation expected to begin shortly afterwards.
