Residents in High Peak may have to wait until June 2026 to start receiving separate weekly food waste collections, after the borough council confirmed delays to the national rollout.
HPBC had originally planned to introduce the service in line with the Government’s 30th March deadline, but says national supply issues with new collection vehicles and bins have forced a postponement.
The council has informed central Government of the delay to avoid potential penalties, while it works to ensure the service can be delivered efficiently. High Peak says hiring temporary vehicles to begin collections earlier would be prohibitively expensive and is not being pursued.
Once the service begins, households will receive a five-litre kitchen caddy with a roll of biodegradable bags and a larger outdoor bin for their food waste. The council says the delay will allow time for the new vehicles to be fully delivered and commissioned, ensuring a reliable and well-managed service from the outset.
High Peak Borough Council has stressed that the delay is part of a national issue affecting many councils., with supply chain pressures and vehicle procurement affecting the March rollout across the country.
