Glossopdale School builds to improve pupil experience

Glossopdale School & Sixth Form have begun the first phase of construction of a new enclosed canopy adjacent to their existing conservatory.

This development comes in response to the ever-rising popularity of the school, resulting in increased enrolment and therefore larger student numbers, year on year.

The canopy will enhance the overall lunchtime and break experience for students, providing additional seating, serving and social space, allowing more students to comfortably enjoy their meals and relax with friends during their break and lunch periods.

The school has recognised the challenges posed by limited seating and the risk of congestion during peak times; this project is a proactive step toward alleviating those issues as well as providing a flexible space for staff and students to use for their learning.

“We’ve seen a significant rise in student numbers over the past few years and with that comes the need for more communal space,” said Ms. Smith, Headteacher. “We have already added the recent extension which now houses our dedicated Sixth Form Centre and, as we continue to grow and improve, we continually review the additional facilities that we need in order to support students throughout the day.

"This space will not only offer a more pleasant environment in which students can eat and socialise, but it will also help reduce the length of queues and any overcrowding that can occur during social times. We know from consulting with students, parents and staff how important this is to them.”

The new building started on Monday 7th July and is expected to be finished just before the end of the summer break, ready for students to enjoy in the new academic year.

The project reflects Glossopdale’s ongoing commitment to improving student wellbeing and creating a more inclusive and comfortable school environment.

Construction is now well underway and the school looks forward to unveiling the new canopy in September.
