Cue queues for commuters on Mottram Moor

Commuters should expect more delays around Mottram Moor this week as work ramps up on construction of the A57 link roads.

After work to install utilities and remove a traffic island on Roe Cross Road, followed by taking out a pedestrian island on Mottram Moor, there will now be lane closures near the Back Moor traffic lights.

One eastbound and two westbound lanes will remain open between 6am and 7pm, while contraflows and lane closures may affect traffic outside peak hours and during weekends.

A spokesperson from National Highways said: “This lane closure will remain for the duration of the scheme as it enables critical work to take place, such as utility diversions, which is one of our first activities.

“We want to reassure you that these changes have been carefully planned to minimise disruption while ensuring we can carry out our work safely and efficiently.”

Roe Cross Road will continue to operate with one narrowed lane in either direction until the £180m project completes.

The cycle lanes and the northbound carriageway footpath will also not return until construction finishes in 2028.
