Dark Peak Books & Gifts has teamed up with High Peak Green New Deal to host the launch of a new book examining the debate around nuclear power.
Author Linda Pentz Gunter, who is visiting the UK from the United States as part of a book tour, will be at Glossop Labour Club at 7.30pm on Wednesday 24th June. The evening will include a talk about her new book, a question-and-answer session and an opportunity for discussion.
Organisers say nuclear power is rarely out of the headlines, with supporters arguing that it is needed to tackle climate change, keep electricity bills down, create jobs and provide a source of "green" and "homegrown" energy. They also point to claims that a new generation of reactors will be safer, cheaper and capable of addressing the issue of radioactive waste.
In her new book, No to Nuclear, published by Pluto Press in March 2026, Linda Pentz Gunter challenges many of those claims.
She also puts the human face on the story, looking at the negative impacts of nuclear power and nuclear weapons on human rights, and the welfare of animals and nature, telling the stories of those victimised all along the nuclear chain, from uranium mining to nuclear power plants to the bomb.
Linda will be signing copies of the book following the event. Copies will be available to purchase on the night and from Dark Peak Books & Gifts.
