National Highways confirmed the road will reopen with three sets of temporary traffic lights between Tintwistle and Crowden to allow firefighters and specialist vehicles to continue working safely. Motorists are being warned to expect delays while the signals remain in place.
The announcement comes as Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that "steady progress" is continuing to be made across the moor, with firefighters from Derbyshire working alongside crews from across the UK under National Resilience arrangements.
The incident remains divided into four sectors, with crews continuing to tackle hotspots buried beneath the peat. Firefighters have reported a slight increase in hotspots in the Featherbed Moss area following a change in wind direction, but say these are being closely monitored and targeted.
With very warm weather forecast to return over the coming days, fire crews will continue to monitor conditions carefully to reduce the risk of the fire flaring up again.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service thanked local communities, businesses and road users for their patience during the closure, while National Highways also expressed its gratitude to everyone affected by the disruption.
