BANK Bar & Brasserie: In a place of its own

Brother and sister Charlie and Katie Wray, BANK Bar & Brasserie owners.

Since opening its doors in December 2025, BANK Bar & Brasserie has quickly established itself as one of the most talked about venues in Glossop town centre.

Now, local brother and sister team Charlie and Katie Wray say they are continuing to “find their feet” as they shape the business into what they believe Glossop really wants from a modern town centre venue.

Speaking honestly about the first few months, Katie says the team have learned a huge amount since opening inside the former NatWest Bank building in Norfolk Square.

“When you first open somewhere new, there’s always pressure and expectation” she explained. “We’ve had some brilliant feedback and some fantastic support from people in Glossop. Like any new business, we’ve also learned lessons along the way and we’re constantly evolving.”

Rather than trying to become a formal fine dining destination, Katie says the vision is to create somewhere relaxed, welcoming and affordable, serving high quality food and drinks in a comfortable setting.

“We’re not trying to be pretentious or over complicated. What we want is that casual French brasserie feel, where people can come in for lunch, coffee, drinks, dinner or a night out and just enjoy the atmosphere.”

“We realised quite quickly that parts of the menu had probably gone further than we originally planned” Katie admitted. “That wasn’t really the direction we wanted long term. We want quality, but we also want it to feel approachable and good value.”

That thinking has led to a summer refresh of the menus, with new lunch and children’s menus being introduced alongside changes to the main menu to further strengthen BANK’s daytime offering.

Importantly, Katie stressed that the evenings remain a huge focus for the business and continue to be a major opportunity, particularly as Glossop’s thriving weekend social scene continues to grow.

“We absolutely see evenings as a massive part of what BANK is about” she said. “The weekend atmosphere in Glossop is brilliant, and we want to be part of that energy. We’re just making sure we offer the right balance across the whole week, from daytime through to late evenings.”

One of the biggest additions this summer is BANK’s brand-new outdoor dining and drinks area, designed to make the most of the warmer months in the heart of Glossop, with bespoke outdoor furniture handmade by the family.

Alongside the food and outdoor space, BANK is also planning music nights and more social events as they continue building the atmosphere inside the historic venue. And perhaps most importantly, Katie hopes people who may have visited during the early weeks will come back and experience how the venue is continuing to evolve.

“We’re still growing into the business we want BANK to become” she said. “Opening somewhere like this is a huge learning curve and we’re listening all the time to what people want from us.

“We genuinely want BANK to become part of Glossop life. Somewhere people feel proud of, comfortable in and excited to come back to.”

Just a few months after opening, it is clear BANK is evolving quickly and, with the team now finding their rhythm, Charlie and Katie Wray believe the best is still to come.
