Young performers from three local primary schools took centre stage this Christmas, delighting audiences with lively pantomime performances at Stalybridge Victoria Market Hall.
Children from Micklehurst All Saints CE Primary School, Aldwyn Primary School and Bradley Green Primary Academy presented their own creative twists on the classic festive tale Jack and the Christmas Tree during performances held on 10 and 11 December.
The shows were packed with songs, humour and plenty of audience interaction, as pupils from Year 3, 4 and 6 showcased the results of six weeks of rehearsals. Family members, friends and younger schoolmates gathered at the historic venue to cheer on the young cast, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere.
The project was delivered by Tameside Council’s Cultural Services Team, working in partnership with National Theatre practitioners. Tameside Music Service also played a key role, supporting the children with singing lessons in the lead-up to the performances.
The festive showcases formed part of a pilot programme of events following recent repairs to Stalybridge Victoria Market Hall, allowing Tameside Council to explore future opportunities for the venue and assess operational needs.
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Councillor Leanne Feeley, praised the initiative. She said: “These performances were excellent at fostering culture and creativity with our younger residents. It was a wonderful use of our Market Hall, and each of the performing classes did an absolutely fantastic job entertaining the audience. What a perfect way to continue the Christmas season.”
