Tameside hospital consultants reaching new heights for the Tameside Breast Unit

In August, Mr Pardeep Arora, consultant breast surgeon at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, will be taking on the ultimate physical and mental challenge.

He is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, to raise funds for the breast unit at Tameside Hospital.

From Tameside to Tanzania, Mr Arora will be joined by a team of seven individuals, including colorectal surgeon Mr Solkar, anaesthetist Dr Rehman, and more members of staff.

They will scale the 5,895m (19,341ft) peak over seven gruelling days, from 23 to 30 August 2025.

Funds raised will go directly towards enhancing services and facilities within the breast unit, from upgrading equipment to providing supportive resources that make a difficult time a little more comfortable for patients and their families.

Speaking about the challenge, Mr Arora said, "As a consultant surgeon, I see first-hand how vital it is to have the right tools, environment, and support in place for patients undergoing breast surgery. I’m climbing Kilimanjaro to help enhance our breast unit – to improve the experience for patients and ensure we can continue providing the best possible care."

Emily Whelan, Charity Manager at Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity, said, "We’re incredibly proud of Mr Arora and the team for taking on such a monumental challenge. Their commitment to improving patient care is inspiring, and we’re calling on our local community to get behind them with their support."
