A Tameside arts centre marked five years at the heart of its community with a day of creativity, culture and celebration.

Families, artists and local residents came together to mark The Vale's fifth birthday, enjoying a packed programme of free activities, performances and workshops in Mossley. Even the occasional shower failed to dampen spirits as visitors of all ages joined in the festivities.

From energetic drumming and dance workshops to a lively Carnival ceilidh, the celebrations showcased the creativity and inclusivity that have become hallmarks of The Vale.

Visitors got stuck into a range of arts and crafts activities, while a special garden workshop invited people to create their own natural perfumes. A traditional apple press also proved a popular attraction, with families rolling up their sleeves to turn fresh fruit into juice.

Carnival artist and puppet builder Mel Roberts introduced visitors to Rimmon, a striking giant walkabout puppet, sharing insights into the stories behind her work.

Elsewhere, Knights of the Vale welcomed newcomers into the world of tabletop gaming through a Warhammer figure-painting workshop, while members of Mossley Writers brought words to life with a "pavement poetry" session. Birthday revellers also enjoyed a surprise appearance from Mossley Morris Men.

The celebration offered an opportunity to reflect on The Vale's transformation. Originally launched on a shoestring budget 14 years ago, the former mill building underwent a £1 million redevelopment before reopening in 2021.

Emma Scott, events coordinator, The Vale, said: "It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate everything The Vale has become over the last five years.

"The craft workshops were hugely popular, while the sound bath, meditation, drumming and dance sessions brought fantastic energy throughout the day.

"What made the celebration so special was seeing people of all ages discovering something new, getting creative and connecting with one another. Moments like these are exactly what we are about.

"The Vale has become a centre for creativity, learning and community engagement, welcoming thousands of visitors through its programme of events, workshops and cultural activities. The fifth birthday celebrations provided a fitting opportunity to reflect on that journey while looking ahead to the next chapter."
