Families from across Tameside came together for a lively and memorable afternoon at the annual St Peter’s Community Gathering Family Fun Day, held on Sunday 3 August at Oxford Park in Ashton.

The free event, now a much-loved fixture in the local calendar, offered a packed programme of entertainment and activities for all ages. From a bouncy castle and live music to face painting, henna artists, and a magician, there was something to keep every member of the family entertained throughout the day.

Around 1,000 people attended the event, which was made possible thanks to the support of Jigsaw Homes Tameside and the efforts of dedicated local volunteers. The Deputy Mayor of Tameside Council, Helen Bowden, and her consort were also in attendance, showing their support for the community-led celebration.

Local organisations played a key role in making the day a success. LEAP Children’s and Family Centre engaged children with creative crafts and a popular bird box feed stall. A range of other stalls were hosted by Tameside Council, Be Well Tameside, Ashton Market, and Greater Manchester Police, offering information, activities, and friendly faces throughout the park.

All aspects of the fun day were completely free for families, including refreshments and a welcome treat of a free ice cream for every child.

Minaz Aslam, Neighbourhood Engagement Officer at Jigsaw Homes said: "It was rewarding to see lots of happy faces and the whole community enjoying the day and engaging with each other at this happy and inclusive event.

“A huge thank you to all the volunteers, including Active Oxford Park, LEAP Children's and Families Centre and the Community Gathering volunteers. I’d like to give a special thanks to Greater Manchester Police and Tameside Council for their support who all worked so hard to help make the day such a success.”

Cllr Joyce Bowerman, Chair of the St. Peter's Community Gathering said: "It was truly heart warming to hear how so many families came together and enjoyed a wonderful day at the St. Peter's Community Gathering Family Fun Day. The photos from the event show the very best of our community - laughter, friendship, and everyone looking out for each other. I'm so proud of the team and volunteers who made it all possible and delighted that so many people joined us to make it such a special day. Although I couldn't be there in person due to illness, I was very much there in spirit and so proud of what we achieved together."

The St. Peter’s Community Gathering, extend their heartfelt wishes to Cllr Joyce Bowerman who was sadly unable to join this year as she is currently recovering from long-term sickness. Cllr Bowerman has Chaired the St. Peter’s Community Gathering for the past 10 years. Her leadership and support truly means a lot to the Community Gathering and local residents.
