Seaside vibes are set to make a splash in the heart of Stalybridge this summer as the town’s historic Victoria Market Hall transforms into a pop-up beach for five fun-filled days.

From Tuesday 19 to Saturday 23 August, families, friends, and fun-seekers of all ages are invited to dive into a weeklong event full of sunshine-inspired fun. Open daily from 10am to 3pm, the pop-up beach promises a vintage-style escape, with everything from deck chairs and sandcastles to arts, crafts, and sweet treats.

Whether you want to kick back with an ice cream, dig into the sandpit, or get involved in a wide range of seaside-themed activities, there will be something to entertain everyone. Highlights of the event include a beat-bopping kids’ disco, treasure hunts, group games, and touch tours, alongside a fantastic puppet workshop and craft sessions where children can create their own seaside masterpieces.

Each day brings a fresh mix of activities and surprises, making it a perfect destination for repeat visits. The first hour each morning (10am–11am) will also be dedicated to quiet sensory play, providing a welcoming space for children and families who may benefit from a calmer environment.

The pop-up beach is part of a new wave of events brought to Stalybridge through the Stalybridge Capital Regeneration Programme, which aims to rejuvenate the town centre and breathe new life into its rich heritage. The event will also showcase the newly refurbished Victoria Market Hall, which recently underwent a major transformation with a new roof and modernised interiors.

Earlier this month, the hall hosted the Stalybridge Comedy Weekender, attracting some of the UK’s top comedy talent including Seann Walsh, Fatiha El-Ghorri, and Larry Dean. The event drew crowds and laughs in equal measure, solidifying the hall’s status as a vibrant new cultural hub.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said: “The comedy weekend was the first event, and it went down really well, both evening events were sold out showing that we were providing an event people wanted. We are aiming to build on that with the pop-up beach event and bring something different again for families to enjoy, it will be a really fun event with lots to do and take part in that will really bring the summer vibe to Stalybridge. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a great day out at the seaside without having to go hours in the car!”
