Three primary schools in Tameside have worked to improve their local neighbourhoods by participating in litter picking sessions.
Pupils from Gorse Hall Primary, Aldwyn Primary and Greenside Primary took part in litter picks throughout May, playing their part in keeping Tameside tidy and tackling litter. Aldwyn Primary and Greenside Primary are part of the Victorious Academies Trust.
Schools organised their own initiatives for the litter picks, but all made use of Tameside Council’s local Litter Hubs for equipment, including bags, high-vis vests, pickers and bin rings ensuring they had everything they needed.
The litter picks also supported the Great British Spring Clean, a national campaign encouraging cleaner boroughs.
Tameside Council’s ‘Our Streets’ campaign encourages residents to take responsibility and pride in their local area, all year round.
Litter Hubs are located across Tameside, and are available to help volunteers, groups, and residents carry out their own litter-picking sessions with ease.
Cllr Laura Boyle, Tameside Council Executive Member for Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods, said: “Absolutely great work from all the schools involved in carrying out their own litter picks, and helping to contribute to a tidier borough. It’s a great way to build good habits and encourage pride and responsibility in their neighbourhoods.
“We really encourage residents to reach out to local Litter Hubs and get involved in hosting litter picks. Little contributions make a great difference.”
