Rosie the Boxer cross hopes to find ‘fur-ever’ love after 775 days at Dogs Trust Manchester

A lovable Boxer cross who has spent more than two years waiting for a home is hoping this Valentine’s Day will finally bring her the happy ending she deserves.

Rosie, aged four, is currently the longest-stay resident at Dogs Trust Manchester, having been in the charity’s care for 775 days. She arrived as a stray in 2022 and has been patiently waiting ever since for her perfect match.

Now staff at the rehoming centre are crossing their paws that someone will ‘chews’ Rosie and offer her the forever family she has been dreaming of.

Described as blooming beautiful, devoted and full of playful energy, Rosie is a true heart-stealer. She loves to show off her tricks, head out on long walks and spend quality time with her favourite people. Always up for an adventure, she enjoys car rides especially when they lead to peaceful, sniff-filled strolls.

Despite her long stay, Rosie hasn’t lost her loving nature. She has what staff describe as “bouquets of unconditional love and loyalty” ready to give to the right home.

However, Rosie isn’t looking for a whirlwind romance. Instead, she’s hoping for a slow-burn, forever kind of love. Her ideal home would be adult-only, with patient adopters who understand she likes to build trust at her own pace. Given time, care and understanding, staff are confident she will blossom into a loyal and loving best friend.

Rosie would prefer to be the only pet in the home, as she wants all eyes, and hearts, on her. While she enjoys calm walking routes and can be friendly with other dogs, she can be a little unsure at first. With gentle encouragement, she continues to grow in confidence and make new canine companions while out and about.

She’s not just a pretty face either. Rosie is intelligent and enjoys training, thriving on activities that challenge her mind as well as exercise her legs.

Lisa Eardley, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Manchester, said: “Rosie is our longest-stay dog and is constantly overlooked. She is a brilliant girl with a playful soul, is full of affection and settles in well. With structured introductions, she’ll quickly steal the hearts of her forever family.”

Rosie is affectionately known as one of Dogs Trust’s “Underdogs” – a term used for dogs who have been waiting more than six months for their forever home. Some underdogs may need additional training, ongoing veterinary care or have specific rehoming requirements, while others, like Rosie, are simply waiting to be noticed.

This Valentine’s Day, Dogs Trust Manchester is encouraging would-be dog owners to think beyond flowers and chocolates and consider giving a rescue dog the gift of a loving home.

Rosie and the other dogs at Dogs Trust Manchester are available for rehoming. For more information, visit www.dogstrust.org.uk/manchester.
