Mossley Farmers Market has won national recognition after being named Best Small Speciality Market at the Great British Market Awards.
The accolade marks an outstanding achievement for the popular community market, which only launched in 2025 and has already captured the hearts of residents across Mossley and beyond.
Held on the last Sunday of each month, the market has quickly become one of the town’s most anticipated events. Each edition brings together an impressive range of fresh food, handmade crafts, plants and sweet treats, alongside friendly local traders who have helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
But it’s not just about shopping. The market has built a reputation for its lively, family-friendly entertainment, ensuring every event feels like a celebration. Visitors have enjoyed appearances from Laurel & Hardy tribute acts, interactive characters such as the Grinch, children’s entertainment including dinosaurs, and even classic car displays.
The Great British Market Awards are organised by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA), the leading body representing and supporting markets across the UK. NABMA promotes high standards in market management, professional development for market officers and champions the vital role markets play in strengthening local communities.
Awards are judged by a panel of some of the most experienced market professionals in the industry, ensuring that winners demonstrate genuine excellence, innovation and community impact.
Cllr Stephen Homer, Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, said: “This is fantastic news. The market is more than just a shopping event – it’s a celebration of everything that makes the Mossley community special. It’s a chance to meet people, socialise, support local traders, and enjoy a day filled with community connections. A great big thank you to the traders and community who have made it such a special event with their support and enthusiasm.”
Judges praised Mossley Farmers Market for its:
- Strong support for small businesses and local makers
- Positive, community-focused atmosphere
- Wide range of entertainment and activities suitable for all ages
- Contribution to energising and enhancing Mossley’s town centre
