The Gee Cross Brabyns Neighbourhood Watch Group is thrilled to announce the return of its much-loved annual Children’s Creative Writing Competition - now in its third year.
This year, the contest takes a poetic turn, inviting young writers to explore the magical theme “Werneth Winter Wonderland.”
Open to primary school children aged 7 to 11, the competition encourages budding poets to let their imaginations run wild. Entries can take any poetic form, fact or fiction, past or present, and should capture the wonder and spirit of winter in Gee Cross and beyond.
The competition will be divided into two age categories:
- Ages 7–9
- Ages 10–11
Entries open on 20th October and close on 7th November, offering children the perfect chance to showcase their creativity as the festive season draws near.
This year’s entries will be judged by Dr Mark P. Henderson, an accomplished author and active member of the Glossop Bookfest, who has written several books and regularly organises literary events and competitions for children and local residents.
Prizes include book tokens worth £30 for first place, £20 for second, and £10 for third in each age group. Selected winners will also receive books to further encourage their passion for reading and writing.
The competition is open to children living in, attending school in, or having a connection with Gee Cross. Poems should be no longer than 40 lines, and all entries must be handwritten. Each submission should include the entrant’s name, address, age, and school name.
Entries can be handed in at:
- Jardine Estates
- Tesco Express
- Griffs On The Green, all located in Gee Cross village.
The Gee Cross Brabyns Neighbourhood Watch Group says the competition reflects its ongoing commitment to fostering creativity, confidence, and community spirit among local young people.
