Denton's new food hall will make the town a place to 'live, work and play'

Denton will soon get a new food hall, with developers aiming to make the town a place where people can ‘live, work and play’.

The approved plan – for ‘Hatters Square’ – will see the four retail units on Jubilee Square replaced with  a huge food hall. Hatters Square Limited has set out its vision to ‘revive the town centre high street’.

The food hall will include a performance stage, a mezzanine floor, a private event space and a feature staircase. The ‘greenhouse’ on the first floor will offer a unique dining experience with views over the nearby Victoria Park.

The extensions to the building comprise the first floor glasshouse at the back and a second floor ‘saw-toothed’ extension. The current site would have to be partly demolished and altered before building work on the new project could get going.

These spaces will then be fit-out to accommodate six new micro-kitchens for the eateries coming in.

Planning papers read: “Having lived away from their respective hometowns of Hyde and Gorton for some years, the developers are keen to introduce the food hall concept to Denton as it begins to welcome a new demographic of young families, professionals and commuters.

“The philosophy of Live, Work, Play is not necessarily a new concept, but one which is not currently demonstrated in Denton.

“The principal is the scheme would be a vibrant colony for networking and community during the week and a place for all manner of culture to enact in the evenings and weekends; all whilst being a stones throw from the ever-growing city centre.”
