Closure announced for Halifax branch in Ashton town centre

Residents in Ashton are set to lose another high street bank this summer, as Halifax has confirmed it will close its Ashton-under-Lyne branch.

The branch, located within The Arcades, will shut its doors permanently on June 1, 2026.

The news comes as Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of a further 95 bank branches across its high street network.

The exact number of impacted staff has not been specified but Lloyds has confirmed that all current employees working in affected branches will be offered alternative roles at other locations or within the business.

The move represents the latest in a series of branch reductions by the banking giant.

Halifax customers who still wish to bank in person after the closure will be directed to Lloyds bank on Old Street, which will provide counter services and support.

The closure marks another change for the town centre of Ashton-under-Lyne, where access to traditional banking services has gradually reduced in recent years.

Customers are encouraged to explore alternative options, including online, telephone and mobile banking services, or to visit the Lloyds branch for in-person assistance once the Halifax site closes.

Further details regarding the transition of services are expected to be communicated directly to customers ahead of the June closure date.
