Some of the UK's most exciting street artists are set to descend on Ashton this August as Ashton Underlined returns for a spectacular day of live art, music and creativity in the heart of the town centre.
Taking place on Saturday 15th August outside Ashton Town Hall, this free family-friendly event will see 20 talented artists creating large-scale artworks live throughout the day, giving visitors a rare opportunity to watch incredible murals and canvases come to life before their eyes.
Alongside the live painting, visitors can enjoy DJs, breakdancing, skateboarding demonstrations, and a giant community doodle wall where children and families can get creative themselves.
Delivered by Art Battle Manchester and street artist Jay Sharples, Ashton Underlined celebrates creativity, community and the growing influence of street art as an outdoor art gallery for everyone to enjoy.
The event forms part of Tameside Council's Super Saturday’s programme, a series of free events bringing culture, entertainment and activities into Ashton town centre. Further Super Saturday events will also take place in September and October, bringing live music, seasonal activities, and themed family fun to Ashton. The town centre is undergoing huge transformation work with a new market square, designed to hold a variety of general and speciality markets, as well as cultural events to bring in residents and visitors and support local business.
Ashton Underlined gives local people the chance to meet artists, watch their techniques up close and experience the energy of a live paint jam—all completely free.
Whether you're an art lover, looking for a fun family day out or simply curious to see something different, there's something for everyone. Visitors are encouraged to spend the day exploring the event, chatting with artists, enjoying the entertainment and supporting Ashton town centre.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “We can’t wait to bring back another Super Saturday event for residents to enjoy, after such a successful launch event last month. This month’s Super Saturday brings a fantastic opportunity for our residents to watch incredible murals and canvases come to life by the talented artists.”
Following the success of the first Ashton Underlined in 2024, organisers are expecting another fantastic turnout and are inviting people from across Greater Manchester to experience one of the region's most colourful cultural events.
