The Height
Band of the week on Tameside Radio's Local Music Spotlight feature are TheHeight. The three-piece indie rock band, who are based in Salford, consist of John Denton on Vocals/Lead Guitar, Brandon Greenhalgh on Bass, and Ted Ellis on Drums, and inspirations include bands as diverse as The Smiths, Korn and Chic.
The Height were formed in the late summer of 2022 and released their official debut single ‘Nowhere’ in December 2022 following it up with the single release of ‘Go’ in February 2023, ‘Control’ in April 2023, ‘One to Another’ in August 2023 & ‘I Know There’s More’ in October 2023. Since then it's fair to say that things have been an absolute whirlwind for the band, with both singles receiving much critical acclaim and praise from many radio stations and media outlets, plus the band also caught the ear of legendary Smiths guitarist and co-songwriter Johnny Marr who awarded lead vocalist/guitarist John Denton the first ever ‘The Salford Foundation Trust Johnny Marr Award’.
On a Radio Interview for a national radio station, Johnny referred to John as ‘The real deal’. It's the sort of compliment that many seasoned musicians can only dream of, and it's made all the more amazing when you factor in the band’s ages with Lead singer/Guitarist John being only 13 years old!
The bands single, One to Another, was featured by Salford City Football Club in their launch of their 23/24 kit. The music video was produced by Adidas and Pro-Direct Soccer. This brought hundreds of thousands of social media views and great local acclaim.
They even got featured on David Beckham’s Instagram! Despite being of tender years, John is no stranger to the scene and regularly can be found busking on the streets of Manchester, the videos of which have racked up thousands of views on the band’s social media channels. The band also completely sold out Salford Lads’ Club playing to a capacity crowd at their very first headline gig.
The Height have also supported Skylights at Manchester Academy and performed to an audience of 700 at Liverpool Cathedral for the Educate Awards, as well as performing at many gigs around theUK.
The band's following is forever growing, and the lads are now set for some of their biggest gigs yet this year. They’ll be performing at Deaf Institute (Manchester) in June 2024, Bask headliner (Stockport), BritFest (Cheshire), G-Fest Main Stage (Salford), Gorilla Beer Hall (Mexbrough), Kos Stock Room (Liverpool) and many more. The Height will be played on every weekday show on Tameside Radio between 6am and 7pm all of next week.
The band also joined the team on The Dave Sweetmore Show last Monday night, you can listen again via the OnDemand section of the website.
