Mike Wallbank
Brought up in Denton, Mike’s first job was at the Denton Reporter, starting out as a very young 'cub' reporter.
For Mike, it was the start of a long career in journalism which several decades later has now come full circle with local news and features for the Tameside Reporter.
In 1983, he was a founder member of the volunteer team which launched Heartbeat Radio, later re-named 8 Towns Radio, at Tameside Hospital.
A regular feature on his present day show is ‘Vintage Newsround Tameside’, which is based on a local news round-up which Mike compiled and presented for 10 years on the now defunct hospital radio station.
Mike was one of the first presenters when Tameside Radio launched in 2007, and he has hosted ‘The Show That Time Forgot’ on Sunday afternoons ever since.
In all of that time, his proudest moment was hearing that the show had been shortlisted among the 'top five' in the Best Entertainment Show category of the national Community Radio Awards.
Broadcast live each week, Mike’s show is a leisurely stroll through the mists of time with music and memories from across the decades.
Each hour shines the spotlight on a particular year with local news and nostalgia from the Tameside Reporter archives.
You can hear ‘The Show That Time Forgot’ with Mike Wallbank every Sunday from 1pm on Tameside Radio.
