A gang of youths set fire to stalls on Ashton’s outdoor market around 8pm last night (Monday).
The aftermath of the incident shows burning newspapers and ash strewn over the floor and market tables. A fire engine and several police cars were called to the scene.
Working as a cleaner in the indoor market, an eyewitness reported: “I noticed the fires through the window, so I went to see if anyone had phoned the police and found out the McDonalds had.
“They were youths around where the fires were, I said to one of them that what they were doing was disgusting, and he replied that I couldn’t prove it was them. He had a black jacket on with a hood and black mask.”
The Reporter has reached out to the police and fire service for comment.
