A woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a building collapsed when a car smashed into it on an Ashton street.
Emergency services rushed to Canterbury Street at around 6.45pm on Thursday evening (5 January), following reports of a road traffic collision.
A car is understood to have crashed into the side of a property, causing significant structural damage and leaving a large amount of rubble in the road.
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that one woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken into police custody as enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said two fire engines from Ashton and Stalybridge stations, and the technical rescue unit, were sent to the scene.
They added that the female driver freed herself from the car prior to crews arriving and was treated by paramedics but no other casualties have been reported.
A scene was in place throughout the night and the road remained closed on Friday morning.
