A teenage boy jailed for manslaughter, a threat of jail for a banned motorist and a man found with possession of cannabis have been among the recent cases heard by Tameside Magistrates' Court.

Threat of jail for banned motorist

Disqualified driver Joseph Edwards was over the drug drive limit when stopped motoring through Saddleworth, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to charges of driving along Oldham Road in Denshaw while disqualified, while over the drug drive limit and without insurance.

The offences happened on January 23 this year.

Magistrates disqualified him from driving for a further three years and handed him a 16 weeks prison sentence, suspended for two years.

He must also carry out 120 hours unpaid work, plus pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £128.

His address was given as Stevenson Drive, Oldham.

Disqualified from driving

Motorbike rider Andrew Lawson, 33, was over the legal drug drive limit when stopped on Stamford Street in Ashton on February 17 this year.

Appearing at Tameside magistrates he admitted the offence and was fined £120 and banned from the road for a year.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

His address was given as Welford Street, Salford.

Cannabis find

Ashley Bunter was found with a quantity of cannabis in his possession on November 24 last year, Tameside magistrates were told.

The 27-year-old, of The Winnows, Denton, admitted the offence and was fined £107, plus ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Magistrates instructed the cannabis be forfeited and destroyed.

Damaged car

Kyle Watkins damaged a driver side wing mirror causing £100 damage, Tameside magistrates were told.

The 24-year-old, of Bradbury Street, Ashton, pleaded guilty to the offence  and was given a 12 months conditional discharge.

Magistrates ordered him to pay £70 compensation, £85 court costs and a £22 victim surcharge.

Too threatening

Tameside magistrates have fined Lukasz Madej £98 for threatening and abusive behaviour.

The 36-year-old, of Wilmans Walk, Hadfield, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened back on December 8, 2019.

The court found the offence racially aggravated and ordered £85 court costs be paid plus a £32 victim surcharge.

Two times over drink drive limit

Fabiano Polverino was more than two times over the drink drive limit when stopped in Audenshaw, Tameside magistrates were told.

The 47-year-old, of Two Trees Lane, Denton, pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped on Denton Road, Audenshaw, on July 23 this year.

The court heard he was found to have 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.

Magistrates banned him from the road for 20 months and fined him £120.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 20 weeks if a driving course is completed.

Suspended prison sentence

Denton driver Michael Brown escaped a prison term when he admitted a drug driving charge.

The 23-year-old, of Nield Road, Denton, pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped on Hyde Road, Denton, of February 26 this year.

He also admitted driving without insurance cover.

Appearing before Tameside magistrates he was handed a 12 weeks prison term, suspended for two years.

He was disqualified from driving for three years and must pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £128.

Drug driver

Twenty-six-year-old Jay Koria was found to be over the drug drive limit when stopped in Mossley, Tameside magistrates heard.

He pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped on Egmont Street on February 26 this year.

Magistrates banned him from the road for three years and fined him £369. He must also pay £85 court costs and a £37 victim surcharge.

His address was given as Cowhill Lane, Ashton.

Out of order

Tameside magistrates fined Paul McLoughlin, 35, of Diamond Close, Ashton £40 for breaching previous court orders. He admitted the offence.

• Muhammad Noor Shipon, 24, of Corporation Street, Hyde, was fined £100 by Tameside magistrates for failing to comply with previous court orders.

He too admitted the offence.

Ordered to pay court costs of £500

Tameside magistrates fined Benjamin Winter a total of £400  for being over the drug drive limit.

The 28-year-old had initially denied the charge but later changed his plea to guilty.

The court heard he was stopped on Morar Road, Dukinfield, on October 18 last year and found to be over the legal drug limit for driving.

As well as the hefty fine, magistrates ordered him to pay court costs of £500 plus a victim surcharge of £40.

He was banned from the road for 12 months.

Businessman killed by teen

A teenage boy has been jailed after admitting the manslaughter of a restaurant owner from Hyde who was hit by his own car while making a delivery earlier this year.
