Who has appeared in court in Tameside?

A thief who stole a bike and a banned driver almost four times over the drink drive limit are among the recent cases heard by Tameside magistrates.

Here's the latest round-up...

Damage caused through accident 

A motorist who was driving without due care resulted in an accident occurring, Tameside magistrates heard.

Carol-Anne Hillson-Hall, 22, initially denied charges of driving without due care and attention and causing damage to another vehicle, but later changed her plea to guilty.

Both charges related to an incident on St Albans Avenue, Ashton, on September 23 last year.

Magistrates fined her £150, plus ordered her to pay £150 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

They also endorsed her driving licence with six penalty points.

Her address was given as Fouracre Avenue, Oldham.

High cost of driving offence 

Tameside magistrates have fined Jamie Desborough £426 for being over the drink drive limit.

The 38-year-old, of Audley Street, Ashton, pleaded guilty to the charge after being stopped on Stamford Street in Stalybridge on March 2 this year.

He was found to have 48 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates banned him from the road for 14 months, although the disqualification can be reduced by a little over three months if a driving course is successfully completed.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £43 victim surcharge.

Charges end in jail sentence

Tameside magistrates have jailed a 31-year-old man for eight weeks.

Matthew Denbigh, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to charges of stealing booze worth £96 from Dukinfield’s Morrisons store, plus being threatening and abusive towards an individual.

Both charges related to an incident just a couple of weeks ago on March 15.

Magistrates said the defendant had a flagrant disregard for other people’s property. He was also ordered to pay £130 compensation.

Drug driver disqualified 

Michelle Leech has been banned from the road for 12 months by Tameside magistrates for a charge of drug driving.

The 27-year-old, of Townsley Grove, Ashton, admitted the offence after being stopped on September 2 on Mossley Road in the town.

She also admitted a separate charge of not having any insurance cover.

Magistrates fined her a total of £300, plus ordered her to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Twice over the drink drive limit 

Manchester man Alfreds Mitrauskis was found to be more than two times over the drink drive limit when stopped at Crowden near Tintwistle.

Tameside magistrates heard he was found to have 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the prescribed limit of 35, when he was stopped on February 15 this year.

The 33-year-old, of Watson Street, Eccles, pleaded guilty to the offence and was banned from the road for 18 months, plus fined £300.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 18 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

Stolen bike worth £250 

A Stalybridge man has been given a six weeks curfew order for stealing a pedal cycle.

Mark Spruce, 39, of Ridgehill Lane, pleaded guilty to taking the bike valued at £250 on November 25 last year.

Tameside magistrates instructed him to remain at his address for the duration of the order between the hours of 7pm and 7am.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

12-month ban 

Drug driver Roydon George has been banned from the road for 12 months by Tameside magistrates.

The 26-year-old, from Rockhampton Street, Gorton, was stopped in Tameside on June 1 last year and found to be over the legal drug drive limit.

He pleaded guilty to the charge, plus not having any insurance cover.

He was fined a total of £180 for the offences, plus ordered to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £34.

Over the limit 

Dukinfield driver Michelle Thurn was more than twice over the legal drink drive limit when stopped in the town, Tameside magistrates were told.

The 35-year-old, of Underwood Street, admitted the offence after being stopped on Valentine’s Day - February 14 -  this year and found to have 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates banned her from the road for 17 months and fined her £120, plus ordered her to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 17 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

Disqualified driver was over the limit 

Banned driver Anthony Mullen was almost four times over the drink drive limit when stopped on Ashworth Lane in Hyde, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 39-year-old, of Torrington Drive, Hyde, admitted charges of driving while disqualified, driving while over the drink drive limit, driving without insurance cover plus taking a vehicle without consent.

The court heard he was stopped on February 8 this year behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa and found to have 133 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates jailed him for 18 weeks for his flagrant disregard of court orders.

He was also banned from the road for a further three years and must pay a victim surcharge of £128.

Out of order

Tameside magistrates have fined Mark Lawson £80 for failing to comply with court orders.

The 32-year-old, of St Albans Avenue, Ashton, admitted being in breach of the orders.
