WATCH: Police arrest man after car crash and fight in Ashton

Police are looking for a good samaritan who helped a police officer who was being assaulted during an attempted arrest.

On Monday [14 October] police attempted to stop a Mazda 3TS which was deploying false number plates. It attempted to flee but crashed within seconds.

PC Jones, from Greater Manchester Police Tameside North, exited his car and used a taser to try and subdue the driver, who was continuously assaulting the officer.

John Porter, 25, of Fifth Avenue, Droylsden, has been charged with Assault with intent to resist arrest, Fail to stop for police, Disqualified driving, Possession of a bladed article and driving without insurance.

Carlo Tommasello, 32, of Seymour Road, Clayton was later detained and charged with possession of cannabis and admitting to being a passenger in the car.

During the arrest a member of the public stepped in to help PC Jones and GMP Tameside North are now trying to identify them to extend their thanks. In a post on their Facebook page they said: “Without their assistance it is likely an offender would have got away and potentially there could have been serious injury caused to PC Jones. If this is you or you know who our civilian hero is please direct message us.”
