Warning after cat shot in Stalybridge

A pet owner from Stalybridge is warning others after her cat has been shot repeatedly over the past two years.

The latest incident happened on Sunday [9 August] night when her beloved cat Rodger returned home with a wound to his chest.

It follows two other incidents where he was shot in the shoulder and once in the base of his tail, some of which resulted in a visit to the vets.

Now his owner Sandra Blewitt wants to warn others of the dangers, after she heard of other cats on the estate suffering the same fate.

“It’s not a deep wound this time, luckily he’s not had to go to the vets” said Sandra.

“Two years ago he came back one evening with a gunshot wound in his shoulder. It was quite deep but he’d managed to get the pellet out.

“Last year he was shot again at the base of his tail. I had to take him to the vet in the end.

“Other cats have been shot in the past and had to go to the vets.

“These people start off shouting animals then they go onto other things don’t they?”

Rodger originally came into Sandra’s life as a stray, having possibly previously lived at the now bulldozed flats on Ambleside. Sandra believes that the cat might be returning there whilst out and entering gardens, making itself a target.

“You can’t stop a cat like a dog can you?” Argued Sandra.

“Whether he’s still going back there and wandering around that area I don’t know.

“I’m really scared, he’s out now and I’m just on edge all the time. It’s not just my cat, everyone else’s is at risk as well.”

Sandra has been in touch with the police who have said they’re sending a local officer to speak to her, but in the meantime she wants people to be vigilant and report any other attacks to help build a case.
