Volunteers from Tameside Talking News were invited to the Mayor’s Parlour in recognition of their invaluable contribution to producing the audio newspaper for residents.
Tameside Talking News is a recorded newspaper, sharing current local news and events. Recording on cassettes started 48 years ago at Clyde House in Ashton-under-Lyne and various other sites before moving to Dukinfield Town Hall and eventually moving onto USB’s which were posted to listeners.
Joined by the Civic Mayor of Tameside Cllr Helen Bowden and Director of Adult Services Joe Kelly, volunteers shared fond memories and one volunteer remarked: ‘’It was a pleasure and a privilege to have been part of.’’
A USB was kindly gifted to the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Helen Bowden, with recordings of the very first edition in 1978 and the first digital edition on USBs in 2011. Tameside Local Archives service will safely store it for future generations to reference.
