Two stabbed in Ashton town centre fight

Police are appealing for information after two men were stabbed during a brawl in Ashton town centre on Friday night.

The fight happened at around 11pm near Admiral Casino on Market Avenue in what GMP say was an isolated incident.

GMP arrested three men aged 40, 32 and 26 on suspicion of assault and violent disorder, and are asking for the public’s help to piece together the sequence of events that led to the disturbance.

“These sorts of incidents justifiably cause concern in the community, but I want to reassure people that we believe it is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community,” said Detective Chief Inspector Abdul Kahar from GMP’s Tameside division.

“While we have three people under arrest, we are still working out the exact sequence of Friday night’s events. I am asking anyone with any information to please come forward.

“This includes anyone who may have witnessed the fight, or has any relevant dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area at around that time.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact us via 101 or the Live Chat function at gmp.police.uk. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

The stab victims’ wounds are not thought to be life changing, while another man involved received minor injuries.
