Hundreds of local residents could soon be hearing the words “you’re hired” thanks to the launch of an ambitious new apprenticeship recruitment campaign, Train Tameside 500.
Tameside College, in partnership with Tameside Council, officially launched the two-year project today (Friday, October 24) at the college’s Restaurant at Tameside One. The initiative aims to create 500 new apprenticeship opportunities across the borough, helping residents gain valuable skills and experience in key growth sectors including construction, engineering, automotive, and health and social care.
The event was attended by council leader Cllr Eleanor Wills, alongside other councillors, politicians and local employers. Five businesses representing these key industries were also recognised as Train Tameside 500 Ambassadors, serving as role models for skills, training, and career development in the borough.
As part of the campaign, Tameside Council has committed to creating 50 apprenticeships a year, providing local people with the chance to “learn and earn” while building sustainable, long-term careers.
Carl Shaw, Assistant Principal at Tameside College, said: “The launch of Train Tameside 500 will raise awareness of local employers and the importance of skills and training in industry. As the leading further education provider and number one provider of apprenticeships in Tameside, we are working alongside Tameside Council to encourage employers to consider apprenticeships and work experience placements.”
The campaign marks a significant step in tackling local skills shortages and supporting economic growth across the borough. By connecting employers with motivated apprentices, Train Tameside 500 aims to strengthen local industries and create a thriving workforce ready to meet the demands of tomorrow.
