Stalybridge Town Team say they will continue in their efforts to improve the town for residents after the town's Christmas lights tree was vandalised.
The ‘Community Christmas Tree’ was pulled down with the main pole bent and white picket fencing surrounding the tree damaged over the festive holidays.
In a statement, the team said: “The volunteers of Stalybridge Town Team, in partnership with Tameside Council, made the lights safe and re-fenced the damaged area.
“Thoughtless vandals have spoilt it for many people who have praised the Christmas tree when lit up in the evening. Stalybridge Town Team volunteers will continue to make the town centre a nicer place to shop, work and live.”
Stalybridge MP Jonathan Reynolds said: “It was very sad to see the scene in Stalybridge.
“Some loved the light up tree, some didn’t, but what a shame something designed for years of use didn’t last the festive season.”
