Tigers move to third with victory against Buxton

BetVictor Premier Division: Hyde United 3-1 Buxton

Hyde secured back-to-back league victories over the Bank Holiday weekend to propel them to third in the table.

It's been a great start to the season for new manager Dave McGurk, who has overcome a tough start to his reign in charge and bounced back from the opening day defeat to Basford United with three consecutive victories against FC United, South Shields and Buxton.

On Saturday, the Tigers made the long trip to South Shields and returned with maximum points after a 1-0 victory. Liam Tongue continued his fine form and scored his second goal in as many games to shock the league favourites.

McGurk played down his side's chances of reaching the playoffs during the pre-seasons schedule, but judging by the Tigers' last three performances you'd think his squad is more than capable of achieving such a feat.

And Monday's victory over Buxton certainly suggests so, with the Tigers fighting from a goal behind in the 17th minute to storm to a 3-1 victory.

Tom Pratt levelled matters in the 33rd minute, before Jack Dyche put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half-time.

And the game was put beyond doubt from the penalty spot in the 75th minute, Daniel Turner converting from the spot.

Hyde will be hoping to extend their winning run to four matches this weekend with a home clash against Stafford Rangers, who are currently 20th in the table after one draw and three defeats.
