The Shed based in Dukinfield is preparing to welcome visitors to a coffee morning on Saturday, with organisers hoping the event will draw a strong crowd and showcase the work being done at the men’s charity.
The event will be held both at the Centre extending to the community Hub next door !
The charity, which moved into its current home last August, says the new premises have already helped it establish a busy and welcoming base in the heart of the community. Staff say the move has allowed the project to grow, with more people taking part in workshops, social activities and community builds.
A major new development at The Shed is its new fully stainless steel kitchen, which is awaiting its environmental health rating before opening. Once approved, it will support the “Men in Kitchens” project, helping men who may be living alone learn how to cook healthy meals from scratch.
Mike Matthews who co-ordinates the project said the aim is to give people practical skills as well as confidence, while Trustee, Maria Bailey described the project as a place that reduces isolation and encourages men to get involved in community work. The charity also welcomes women on Fridays and says it is continuing to look for new ideas and outreach opportunities.
Saturday’s coffee morning will run from 11am to 1pm and will include cakes, tea, coffee, herbal teas, biscuits and a raffle. The event will also feature visits from the Civic Mayor and her consort, along with former Mayor Betty Affleck, who is bringing homemade scones, jam, cream and butter.
Organisers say the coffee morning is free to attend, though donations will be welcome, with all raffle money going back into developing The Shed and its future projects. If you fancy going along this Saturday, they are located at Units 3 and 4, Wellington Parade, Dukinfield
