The Peter ‘Rusty’ Kennedy Memorial Car Show returns to Ashton

The Peter 'Rusty' Kennedy Memorial Car Show is back in Ashton this Sunday, with allcomers invited to attend the annual event.

Car enthusiasts, families, and charity supporters from across Greater Manchester are being invited to come together on Sunday, August 16th, for the sixth annual Peter ‘Rusty’ Kennedy Memorial Car Show in aid of Willow Wood Hospice.

Held at Dixon Academy on Broadoak Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, from 10am to 4pm, the popular event has grown year on year since it was first established in memory of Peter “Rusty” Kennedy, who sadly passed away in 2020.

Kennedy was the man behind WOO, a custom Ford Capri fitted with a 4x4 Cosworth engine. WOO, which refers to the number plate, will be on display at the Memorial Car Show alongside lots of other classic and custom cars.

Willow Wood Hospice cared for Kennedy during his final days, and the annual gathering provides an opportunity for friends, family, and the wider community to celebrate his life while supporting the hospice.

Previous events have attracted hundreds of visitors and an impressive variety of vehicles, ranging from classic and retro cars to modern performance machines, modified builds, and supercars. Last year’s show featured everything from rare historic vehicles to modern-day favourites and iconic cars from the Max Power era.

This year promises another packed day, with hundreds of vehicles expected to be on display, alongside Show & Shine trophies, trade stands, local businesses, and a charity raffle featuring prizes donated by some generous sponsors. There will also be food and drink vendors, making the event an ideal family day out for petrolheads and casual visitors alike.

Most importantly, every donation and raffle ticket sold will help raise vital funds for Willow Wood Hospice, supporting the specialist care and services it provides to local families.

Organisers are hoping the sixth memorial will be the biggest yet and are encouraging the community to come along, enjoy the cars and help keep Rusty’s memory alive.

The Peter ‘Rusty’ Kennedy Memorial takes place at Dixon Academy, Broadoak Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, August 16th.
