The Mossley centre helping to connect communities

Community groups gathered for a fun lunch to celebrate the festive season together.

Mossley Community Centre held a connecting communities event which saw five local groups join together at the Roughtown Road venue to share lunch, chat, make new friends, take part in a fun quiz and sing-along.

The groups included: the 55 Lunch Club, Born and Bred 50-plus Dance Class, Off Shoots Garden Gang, Community Cafe, and the Get Crafty group.

The event was made possible thanks to funding from Forever Manchester.

Members also visited local people who were not able to attend.

At the lunch, the community centre was presented with a cheque for £520 by representatives from Good Vibrations singing group, while a donation of £115 was made by a supporter of the centre.

A special award was also presented to the garden group by a representative from the RHS for five years of outstanding achievement.

Organisers at the centre are also celebrating after they were successful in applying to Tameside Council’s Building Stronger Communities Fund and Jigsaw Homes to support their Cooking on a Budget and Social Eating proposal.

The centre can now offer five places to individuals who would like to learn the skills to share with others, including hints and tips on budgeting, crock pot cooking, store cupboard meals, batch cooking and basic food hygiene.

Anyone interested in taking up a place can contact admin@mossleycommunitycentre.org.uk

Mossley Community Centre is run by the Mossley Community Association, which was set up to provide educational, welfare, recreational and leisure time activities for Mossley residents and is a registered charity.

Currently the centre plays host to a number of community groups including dance, singing, toddler, mums’ well-being, drumming, life drawing and many many more.
