Evidence shows that engaging in the arts can:
• reduce levels of depression and anxiety
• increase self-respect, self-worth, and self-esteem
• encourage and stimulate re-engagement into the community
This is also true for people living with cancer. This relatively new form of therapy can be helpful in providing escape against the backdrop of treatment, anxiety, and fear of the future. In delivering awareness through experience of such therapeutic approaches it is important to have individuals, organisations, groups and businesses involved.
This event will provide the opportunity for people to share their experiences of how the arts have helped them through difficult and traumatic periods in their lives.
If groups or organisations wish to attend, please contact us.
If individuals wish to attend, please call in, or stay for the full event.
Drinks and snacks available, for a donation. (Donations will be shared with groups and organisations that support people in Cancer recovery).
A personal note, from the Creative Director of Tameside Arts.
“Hi, I’m Sam. The reason we are hosting this event is that my sister and I both experienced breast cancer, during the height of lockdown, and as we are both creative people, using the arts really helped our healing process. Due to Covid, I wasn’t able to practically access any holistic or therapeutic arts support, and I think this impacted on my mental health, wellbeing and recovery. I want to raise awareness of the support that is out there for people recovering, and especially how the arts can help to heal. I will be giving a talk on the day about my personal experience and encourage other people who have been touched by Cancer, either personally, or through supporting a loved one to come to this event, to listen and share. I also want organisations across Tameside, Manchester, Oldham and Stockport to come along and contribute, either by sharing their information or offering support to those who are suffering”.
