Tameside tribute to Manchester Arena bombing victims

A vigil which took place in Stalybridge in 2017 following the attack at Manchester Arena

On Monday 22 May, a one-minute silence will take place on the steps of Dukinfield Town Hall at 12 noon to mark the six-year anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing.

Twenty-two people died and hundreds more were injured in the explosion at the end of an Ariana Grande concert in 2017 - one of those victims was 29-year-old Martyn Hett from Tameside.

The moment of reflection will offer the community the chance to not only pay tribute to the terror attack victims but also Gunner Lee Rigby, on the tenth anniversary of his murder.

Tameside Civic Mayor, Cllr Mike Glover, is expected to lead the silence at noon. Following this, Dukinfield Town Hall will be floodlit in yellow at dusk as a mark of respect.

A spokesperson for Tameside Council said: "The gathering is about remembering those tragically lost and to show that we in Tameside stand united against hate, and that there is no place for extremism in our borough."

This morning, we attended the one-minute silence in Dukinfield. The civic mayor, Cllr Mike Glover, led the moment of reflection and a number of councillors attended to pay their respects too. A few members of the public were also in attendance to pay their tributes.
