Communities across Tameside came together last weekend for a heartwarming celebration of diversity, unity, and wellbeing at Ashton Central Mosque.
The event, themed “My Culture, Your Culture, Our World,” took place on Saturday 18th October at the Ashton Central Mosque Community Centre and welcomed people of all backgrounds for an afternoon of friendship, learning, and celebration.
Organised in partnership between Ashton Health Group and the Tameside Health Group and supported through the GM Hate Crime Community Small Grants programme, administered by Tameside Council, the gathering formed part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week.
Visitors enjoyed a vibrant mix of arts and crafts, food tasting samples from seven different cultures, and informative health and wellbeing stalls. Local residents, councillors, and community leaders came together to share experiences, promote understanding, and celebrate the borough’s rich cultural tapestry.
The Tameside Council Community Safety Team were also in attendance, providing information about hate crime awareness and showcasing artwork created by local community and faith groups.
Event organisers said the day aimed to highlight how Tameside’s strength lies in its diversity and its people’s shared commitment to care, respect, and inclusion. The partnership with Tameside Health Group also gave visitors access to valuable health advice and resources to help them lead healthier, happier lives.
Cllr Taf Sharif, Executive Member for Public Health, Community Cohesion and Equalities, said: “I want to thank Tameside Health Group and Ashton Central Mosque for their leadership, and every culture that took part in this wonderful event, showcasing the amazing work that makes Tameside such a vibrant and united community.
“It was truly inspiring to see so many community groups come together to show Tameside Standing Together, especially in light of recent events. Gatherings like this remind us of the strength we find in our diversity. An opportunity to connect, to learn from one another, and to celebrate the shared values that bind us together.
“Events like this shine a light on the respect, understanding, and shared humanity that define who we are; one community, many cultures, standing together as one Tameside.”
