Andy Williams (Tameside Rotary), Captain Ian White (Werneth Low), Andy Elly (holding trophy) and Lisa Buckley (Willow Wood).

A charity golf day organised by Tameside Rotary teed off to success, raising over £1,800 for Willow Wood Hospice.

Sixteen golf teams comprising of 64 local enthusiasts pitched up and charted a course at Werneth Low Golf Club to raise funds for the Ashton-based hospice.

The winners were presented with trophies and prizes by Lisa Buckley, who is the Corporate Community and Events Fundraiser for Willow Wood.

Held every year since 2002, the charity golf day held by the Rotarians has raised around £30,000 in total for Willow Wood.

Andy Williams, from Tameside Rotary, said: "We had a brilliant day and whilst the sun wasn’t shining as bright as we’d hoped, first thing, there were plenty of smiles from the teams as they arrived for registration.

"I want to say a big thank you to everyone who entered, gave money or donated a prize including Asda, Bargain Booze and Morrisons for their contributions. I’d also like say a special thank you to Captain Iain White and staff of Werneth Low Golf Club whose ongoing support is invaluable."

Tameside Rotary’s next charity fundraiser is the annual Tameside Beer Festival which, this year, takes place at Stalybridge Civic Hall on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 September, from midday to 11pm. More details of the event can be found at www.tamesiderotaryclub.com
