Tameside Rotary installs its new president

HAND OVER: Mohammed Karim presents the chains of office to new Tameside Rotary President Steve Knowles.

Rotarian Steve Knowles has been installed as the new President of Tameside Rotary Club for the year 2023/2024.

The special ceremony was held at Dukinfield Golf Club.

Steve, a retired Human Resources Director, joined Rotary three years ago just as the Covid pandemic hit.

Steve’s career skills have proved especially important for the club and Tameside Rotary’s focus for this year will be recruitment.

A former Chairman of Ashton-under-Lyne Round Table, he is looking to continue his involvement in local community projects.

On taking over from President Mohammed Karim, Steve said: “It’s a an honour and privilege to be heading up a group of dedicated volunteers, whose drive and focus is to put something back into the fabric of Tameside.

“We have a packed schedule of activities and events planned for the year, in addition to the Tameside Beer festival at Hyde Town Hall on September 22 and 23.

“We also have our annual golf day on August 23 and a fashion show on October 4. Just visit our website for more information.”

He added: “I am really looking forward to our Santa Sleigh this year. Last year was a great success with additional routes, the streets full of excited children and parents and grandparents.

“The people of Tameside are extremely generous and their support ensures we can support  many local good causes.

“With lots of fun packed events planned, new members are always welcome to come along to one of our Tuesday meetings, held on the second Tuesday of the month. Just check on our website for the venue as the club ‘rotates’ around various venues across Tameside.

The club thanks President Mohammed Karim for his successful year as president.
