Together with Werneth Low Golf Club, Tameside Rotary held its 23rd annual charity golf day in aid of Willow Wood Hospice on Wednesday 22nd August 2025 with a bumper 24 teams entering. This year’s main sponsor was again Malbern Windows and with their help and that of other sponsors, the event raised £5100 which reaches new heights. A new innovative feature of this year’s fundraiser was the introduction of a silent bid auction for six rounds of golf at various golf courses; this was made possible by the generosity of several sponsors.
Handing over the cheque at Willow Wood Hospice on 3 September 2025 was Tameside Rotary’s President Mike Glover, Past President Andy Williams, Wayne Clarke, Malbern Windows and Lucy Ta’ati, Events and Community Fundraiser, Willow Wood.
The winning team on the Golf day was Elly’s Heroes, with WGAF 4 coming second; nearest the pin 9th hole Steve Cooper Clarke; nearest the line Chris Ventress and nearest the pin second shot on 11th hole Matt Foster. One of the highlights of the day is the special “Yellow Ball Competition” this year sponsored by FTDS (First Drainage Solutions LTD). The winning team was M60 Scaffolding with only ten of the teams completing their round and returning the yellow ball.
Lucy made the presentation to the winning teams supported by Mike alongside Lou Arrowsmith, Captain of Werneth Low Golf Club. Lucy said: “Tameside Rotary have been steadfast supporters of Willow Wood since the very beginning, and we are so grateful for their dedication in organising this wonderful Golf Day for over 20 years. This year’s event was the biggest and best yet and we want to thank the kind-hearted Rotarians, everyone who joined in, all the sponsors and in particular Malbern Windows and Werneth Low Golf Club for hosting. It costs around £10,000 each day to keep the Hospice open, and without supporters like Tameside Rotary, we simply couldn’t continue providing our vital care for local people.” Lou confirmed that as Club Captain his nominated Charity at Werneth Low this year is also Willow Wood Hospice, and that currently the golf club has raised an additional £1000.
President Mike of Tameside Rotary added his own thanks for all who made it such a successful day and specifically all the teams who entered. Mike made special mention of Werneth Low Golf Club, their support, generosity and warm welcome. He also thanked all the volunteers from Tameside Rotary, without whose help events like this could not take place. Mike also took the opportunity of inviting all to Tameside Rotary’s next fundraising event Tameside Beer Festival being held at Stalybridge Civic Hall on 19th/20th Sept 25; for more information please visit www.tamesidebeerfestival.co.uk For more information about charity events organized by Tameside Rotary visit www.
