Greater Manchester Police officers from the Tameside district made eight arrests last night as part of Operation Treacle.
According to Greater Manchester Police, Tameside neighbourhood officers have been carrying out additional patrols across the district, and will remain to do so as part of Operation Treacle.
Operation Treacle is GMP's response to anti-social behaviour linked to fireworks and Bonfire Night.
Last night (November 5th), officers proactively arrested eight people between the ages of 17 and 18 on suspicion of affray after they received reports of youths using fireworks to cause fear or damage.
As local communities come together for Bonfire Night celebrations and events across the weekend, neighbourhood teams will be out in force, working with partners to keep people safe and tackle behaviour that causes harm, nuisance, and distress.
The police have reminded everyone that:
- It is a criminal offence for anyone under the age of 18 to possess fireworks in a public place.
- It is an offence to throw or set off fireworks in the street, or use them in a way that causes danger, harassment, alarm, or intimidation to others.
Through Operation Treacle, neighbourhood officers will continue to take proactive action against those who put others at risk, while engaging with communities and addressing the issues that matter most to local residents.
If you witness anti-social behaviour or the misuse of fireworks, please report it to the police via 101, Live Chat, or 999 in an emergency. You can also reach out to your neighbourhood team on Bee in the Loop.
