The council is under no overall control following this month’s local elections. Labour UK are the largest party, holding 24 seats out of 57, with Reform UK being the next largest party holding 19 seats. A total of 29 seats were required to control the council.
It was confirmed that the council will be governed by a single party minority administration.
Cllr Eleanor Wills was appointed to continue in her role as Executive Leader of Tameside Council following a vote at the Annual Council meeting at Dukinfield Town Hall.
Cllr Wills said: “I’m driven by passion, life experience and a real desire to make meaningful difference for people in Tameside. I will use my own experience of growing up in poverty, having a disability, experiencing domestic abuse and homelessness to be a voice to advocate for Tameside residents.
“I will use every platform to ensure we’re building more and better opportunities for the people of Tameside. We’re already bringing in millions of pounds of investment, creating apprenticeships and supporting the development of work and skills to give people better life chances.
“I have a clear set of priorities that I will deliver on, working in partnership with the community, colleagues and partners on our borough strategy. I welcome new members to the Chamber and hope we can work together to continue to build a better Tameside for all.”
